What Happens After a Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

You have put in the time and hard work and completed the pre-apprenticeship program, but what comes next? Where do you go after finishing? What options do you have? It might seem overwhelming. Don’t panic, you have several options for the next steps. Let’s go over a few of them.

Registered Apprenticeship Program(RAP)

If you enjoyed what you were doing during the pre-apprenticeship, a RAP could be the answer. A RAP is an apprenticeship that is validated by the Department of Labor or State Apprenticeship Agency. They offer paid on-the-job training with a mixture of classroom training.

On The Job Training Program (OJT)

Depending on your location there are on-the-job training programs available. In WV, OJT is a joint program between the Federal Highway Administration and the West Virginia Department of Transportation to address the underutilization of females and minorities in the highway construction field by offering training opportunities to learn the necessary skills. Trainees learn new skills used in the performance of highway construction. Participants are trained by experienced workers on the job site. Trainees are paid while getting hands-on experience.

Employment

Depending on the industry of the pre-apprenticeship program you attended, you will be ready for employment in an entry-level position. There is nothing that says you have to continue with additional training. You can begin putting your skills to use right away.

Start your Own Business

Many individuals who have gone through pre-apprenticeships have gone on to open their own businesses. They like the idea of being their own boss. This will require additional business skills but there are lots of courses and online information that will assist you.

As you can see, there are many options available for you after you have completed your pre-apprenticeship program. The choice will be up to you, depending on your long-term goals. You can keep learning additional skills or perfect the ones you currently have.
