West Virginia Women Work is looking for Program Assistants for both of our locations. They will assist the Program Coordinators with the Step Up for Women Construction Pre-apprenticeship program. The position will report to the Executive Director.

Overall Function: As a full-time regular position, the Program Assistant is responsible for teaching all soft skills classes (training and curriculum will be provided) and serving as the first point of contact for participants in the Step Up for Women Construction program. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is a problem-solver and has experience in a variety of areas, from maintenance to repairs (thinks of themselves as a “Jill of All Trades”, or “Handywoman”). In addition to teaching, the Program Assistant will be involved in supporting and empowering program participants in overcoming their barriers and achieving their goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

Recruit training program participants

  • Lead interviews of program applicants
  • Coordinate all applicant enrollment notifications and paperwork
  • Host open-house recruitment events

Teach mandatory soft skill topics from WV Women Work Step Up for Women Curriculum

  • Teach classes virtually and in person
  • Communication skills with classmates and employers
  • How to make an effective phone call
  • Resume writing – nontraditional
  • Interviewing
  • Job Hunting Tactics
  • Graduation requirements
  • Budgeting
  • Registered Apprenticeships and Unions
  • Job Shadowing
  • Field trip to commercial construction job sites

  • Class time for students to contact employers and submit applications

Establish teachers, speakers, and supplemental training for students

  • Oversee and prepare students for hands-on portion of training
  • Coordinate hands-on components of the training program
  • Work with Program Coordinator to complete the cohort schedule

Serve as main point of contact for program participants

  • Answer inquiries via phone, email, or in person
  • Communicates with students via online learning platforms, email, and other communication platforms
  • Monitor attendance and academic progress of students
  • Complete all necessary student reporting to partner agencies such as SNAP and WIOA
  • Provide referrals to community resources as necessary
  • Maintain program records and files
  • Refer students to Program Coordinator for additional support as needed

Assist Program Coordinator as necessary

  • Provide support for recruitment and outreach events
  • Assist with logistical arrangements for program activities and events
  • Perform data entry and record keeping

Maintain a comprehensive and clear filing system of program activities and participant information in order to quickly supply requested information

  • Submit reports via mail and email on a monthly basis
  • Regularly update and submit program statistical information
  • Complete the End of Class Reporting Packet after the completion of every course
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with program participants, staff, and community partners
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing program needs
  • Passion for promoting and supporting self-sufficiency and economic empowerment among women

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Driver’s License
  • Construction / Trades work experience preferred

  • Permanent -/Full Time with occasional evening and weekend hours

Pay and Benefits:

$31,200 salary plus benefits after a 90-day probation period

  • Medical Insurance 100% paid by WVWW after probation period
