You don’t need a fancy resume to build a solid future.
If you’ve ever been told you’re a hard worker, good with your hands, or someone people count on, you might be a great fit for a career in construction.
At West Virginia Women Work, we help people discover their strengths and train for skilled trades that lead to steady paychecks and real opportunities. But construction isn’t for everyone. So how do you know if it might be the right path for you?
✅ You like working with your hands
If sitting behind a desk all day sounds like a nightmare, construction offers something different. Every day brings new challenges, tools, and projects. If you’re the kind of person who likes to see the results of your work, this could be your kind of job.
✅ You’re reliable
Construction sites don’t run on guesswork. They run on people who show up, follow through, and take pride in doing a job right. If others know they can count on you, that’s one of the most valuable skills in this field.
✅ You solve problems instead of walking away
Construction is about more than muscle; it takes brains, too. Every project has its surprises. If you’ve got a curious mind and like to figure things out, you’ll be a huge asset on any crew.
✅ You want more than just a job
A good job means steady hours, fair pay, and a chance to build something long-term. Construction trades offer all three—and you don’t need a college degree to get started.
💡 Ready to see if it’s the right fit?
Our Step Up for Women Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program gives you 12 weeks of hands-on training in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, welding, and more. You’ll earn certifications like OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR, build job-readiness skills, and get connected to apprenticeships and employers.
Classes are free. You just have to be willing to show up and try.
