How Step Up for Women Prepares West Virginia Women for the Construction Workforce

The ever-evolving job market often poses unique challenges to individuals looking to find well-paying, satisfying work, especially in fields where they’ve been traditionally underrepresented. This is particularly true for women in the construction industry. At West Virginia Women Work (WVWW), we have made it our mission to empower women by providing them with the tools, training, and support they need to establish rewarding careers in construction.

Step Up for Women: An Overview

The Step Up for Women Construction Pre-apprenticeship program is a 12-week training that prepares women for a career in the construction industry. It focuses on delivering hands-on technical skills training, combined with essential soft skills development. All participants learn to operate power tools, read code books, apply construction math, and understand safety measures, among other skills. The program is designed to ensure that graduates are job-ready.

Personal Development and Support

Beyond imparting technical skills, the program equally emphasizes personal development. Participants receive career counseling, learn resume writing, practice interview skills, and even get assistance with job placement. Our goal is to empower our students to step confidently into the job market, armed with the technical skills and the essential soft skills required to thrive in the industry.

Empowering Women for Success

Since its inception, the Step Up for Women Construction Pre-apprenticeship program has helped hundreds of women launch successful careers in construction. We are incredibly proud of our students and the positive impact they’ve had on their communities. They prove that our method works: Women can and do excel in the construction industry.

An Opportunity for Employers

For potential employers, our graduates represent a pool of talented, driven, and skilled professionals ready to contribute to their companies. By hiring our graduates, employers gain team members who have proven their determination, versatility, and capacity to learn new skills.

A Bright Future

Through the Step Up for Women Construction Pre-apprenticeship program, WVWW is changing the face of the construction industry in West Virginia, one woman at a time. Our participants are not only building structures; they are building their futures. We invite you to join us, whether as a student ready to step into a new career or as an employer ready to contribute to a more diverse and inclusive construction industry.
