Building Careers, Building Communities: What It Means to West Virginia Women Work

For nearly 25 years, West Virginia Women Work (WVWW) has been dedicated to training women for successful careers in the skilled trades and manufacturing. Our commitment goes beyond equipping students with technical skills—it’s about creating a lasting impact for individuals, families, and the communities they call home.

Building Careers:

At WVWW, “building careers” means more than just job placement. It’s about equipping women with the skills and confidence to succeed in industries that need their talents. Whether it’s carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical work, HVAC, or manufacturing, our students gain hands-on experience and industry-recognized certifications such as OSHA 10, Forklift, and First Aid/CPR. These qualifications don’t just help our graduates secure jobs; they give them the tools to thrive in high-demand, high-paying fields that offer long-term career growth.

Our programs are designed with input from employers to ensure that our graduates meet industry standards and are fully prepared to contribute from day one. Many of our graduates become integral parts of the local workforce, filling critical roles in trades and manufacturing sectors that are essential to our state’s economic stability.

Building Communities:

We believe that when we build strong careers, we build strong communities. WVWW graduates aren’t just employees—they are community members, homeowners, parents, and leaders. By helping women secure stable, well-paying jobs in both trades and manufacturing, we contribute to the broader goal of strengthening our local economies and ensuring the health and prosperity of our communities.

Skilled trades and manufacturing are the backbone of West Virginia’s infrastructure and industries, and our graduates play a crucial role in that. Whether they’re working on local construction projects, improving manufacturing processes, or maintaining critical systems, our students are making tangible contributions to the well-being of their neighbors and the growth of the local economy.

A Legacy of Impact:

As we approach our 25th anniversary, we’re proud of the lasting impact we’ve made. Over a thousand women have come through our programs, each bringing their unique strengths and talents. Their success stories reflect the broader success of our mission: to support and advocate for the education, employment, and economic equity of all women. We will continue to focus on providing high-quality training and new initiatives that empower our graduates to drive economic growth and strengthen communities across West Virginia.
